Egypt reviews proposals for global logistics hub in SCZONE

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly chaired a meeting on Monday to review proposals for a global logistics distribution hub in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. The initiative aims to attract foreign investment and position Egypt as a key trade and supply chain center.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid, SCZONE Chairperson Walid Gamal El-Din, senior SCZONE officials, and representatives of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones.

Madbouly highlighted Egypt's efforts to draw investment into the SCZONE and localize strategic industries and logistics activities. Several international companies have submitted proposals for logistics distribution centers, which the government is now evaluating.

The proposals align with directives from President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to maximize returns from national infrastructure projects and boost foreign direct investment. Officials also discussed governance frameworks and strategies to promote Egypt as a regional redistribution hub.

The project is expected to increase port activity, demand for logistics services, and foreign currency revenues while transforming the SCZONE into a center for transit trade.
