Ethiopia has taken over the chairmanship of the East African Power Pool Ministers Council from Egypt. The handover occurred during the 37th special meeting of the steering committee held in Addis Ababa.
The meeting that began yesterday continued today in Addis Ababa. Water and Energy Minister Habtamu Itefa stressed the need to uphold the supremacy of the law and the organization's founding agreement.
Differences had previously arisen over the chairmanship transfer. Ethiopia assumed leadership according to the established legal sequence.
The working committee presented agreed recommendations to resolve legal disputes. Council members approved them and called for strengthening the regional power market and unity.
