Explosion and fire in Mainz apartment building injure six

An explosion followed by a fire in a multi-family house in Mainz injured six people on Sunday evening. Firefighters rescued two individuals using turntable ladders, while three others suffered smoke inhalation and one had a heart attack. The fire was extinguished after about an hour.

On Sunday evening, an explosion occurred in a multi-family house at the corner of Kreyßigstraße and Goethestraße in Mainz, triggering an apartment fire. Upon arrival, responders found the entrance area partially collapsed and flames coming from the ground floor, as reported by the fire department. The building was initially accessible only via turntable ladders.

Two people had to be rescued this way. Three others suffered smoke inhalation, and one person experienced a heart attack. All six injured were taken to the hospital. The fire was brought under control after about an hour. Around 110 personnel from the fire department, emergency services, and the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) were involved.

According to the THW, the house is not at risk of collapse but is uninhabitable. Police are investigating the cause of the explosion. No information on the extent of damage was initially available. This incident highlights the hazards in urban residential areas and the importance of swift emergency responses.
