Family of kidnapped entrepreneur provides key testimonies to PDI

The partner and children of Jorge Vera, the 84-year-old hardware entrepreneur kidnapped in San Miguel, testified before the PDI hours after the April 21 abduction.

Vera's 75-year-old partner declared in the early hours of April 22 that the victim was a horse racing enthusiast and maintained an international account for those earnings, managed by his son. She also mentioned the sale of a plot of land for approximately 300 million pesos in November of the previous year.

The daughter, who manages her father's accounts, stated that the land had not yet been sold due to her medical leave. The son confirmed that the horse account held around 15 million pesos and that the kidnappers first demanded 55 million and then one billion pesos.

The kidnappers, linked to Tren de Aragua, intercepted Vera near his apartment in San Miguel and took him to a mechanic's workshop. The family made some transfers but did not pay the full amount demanded. Vera was later rescued alive.
