Famke Janssen says Marvel made mistake not casting her in Avengers: Doomsday

Famke Janssen has said Marvel made a mistake by not bringing her back as Jean Grey for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film. The actress shared her thoughts during an appearance at Spacecon 2026.

Janssen spoke with Nerdtropolis at the event and stated that the studio overlooked her for the December release. "I think they made a mistake, but hey, who am I? I’m just a little me who thinks that," she said.

She first played the character in the 2000 X-Men film and returned for X2: X-Men United in 2003, X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006, The Wolverine in 2013 and X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014. Several of her former co-stars, including Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, are set to appear in the new movie.

In an earlier interview from October 2025, Janssen noted that questions about Jean Grey’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe come up often. She described the ongoing interest in the role as flattering.
