Fatboy Slim surprised fans at Big Beach Boutique 7 in Brighton with special guests Simon Pegg and the Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus during his performances last weekend.
The British DJ performed three sold-out shows as part of the annual On The Beach series in his hometown. On Saturday night, July 18, he introduced 50 members of the Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus, who wore pink shirts and performed an a cappella cover of “Right Here, Right Now” that transitioned into Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Fatboy Slim, whose real name is Norman Cook, sat cross-legged on stage smiling during the performance before joining for a full version with pyro and lasers.
The following night, actor and screenwriter Simon Pegg made a surprise appearance. Pegg performed a DJ set featuring a backdrop referencing his 2011 film Paul, and was later joined onstage by Fatboy Slim for a hug and wave to the crowd. Other acts that day included Groove Armada, Derrick Carter and TSHA.
The events followed Fatboy Slim’s impromptu performance at the Carnival Against Fascism march in Brighton, where he held a sign reading “More disco, less fascism.”
