FIFA imposes new transfer ban on Zamalek over unresolved cases

FIFA has imposed a transfer registration ban on Egyptian Premier League club Zamalek due to three unresolved disputes. The ban prevents the club from registering new players until the issues are settled. This adds to Zamalek's history of financial sanctions.

The global football governing body confirmed the ban on its website, listing Zamalek among clubs barred from registering new players. Details about the specific cases or parties involved were not disclosed.

Zamalek, based in Cairo, has encountered multiple sanctions in recent years stemming from financial disputes with former players and coaches. One such case involved Portuguese coach José Gomes, who managed the club in 2024 and currently leads Saudi Arabia’s Al-Fateh.

This latest restriction exacerbates the club's ongoing financial challenges, which have impacted operations and resulted in various legal proceedings before international sports bodies. According to FIFA’s official list, Zamalek joins three other Egyptian clubs under registration suspension: Ismaily, Eastern Company, and Tala Youth Centre.

Despite these off-field issues, Zamalek remains active in competitions. The club is third in the Egyptian Premier League with 22 points, trailing leaders Ceramica Cleopatra by four points. They are also gearing up for the Egyptian Super Cup semi-finals against Pyramids FC on Thursday in the United Arab Emirates, with the winner advancing to face either Ahly or Ceramica Cleopatra in the final.
