Fjord earns longest ovation at Cannes this year

Cristian Mungiu's English-language debut Fjord received a 12-minute standing ovation at its world premiere in Cannes on Monday night. The film stars Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve as a mixed Romanian-Norwegian couple facing challenges in a fjord village.

The Palme d'Or winner's latest drama marked his first film in three years after R.M.N. It follows the couple and their children as their new life unravels due to clashing outlooks with local residents. Mungiu has competed at Cannes four times previously, securing the Palme d'Or in 2007 for 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days along with other honors in 2012 and 2016.
