France dominated Norway 4-1 on Friday in Foxborough in the final group stage match. Ousmane Dembélé scored a hat-trick in the first half.
The Blues secured first place in Group I with this win. Dembélé opened the scoring in the 7th minute, doubled the lead in the 20th and completed his hat-trick in the 32nd. Désiré Doué added a fourth goal in stoppage time.
Norway pulled one back to make it 3-1 through Thelo Aasgaard in the 21st minute. Mike Maignan saved a Norwegian penalty in the second half.
Guy Stéphan led the team in the absence of Didier Deschamps, who returned to France following his mother’s death. Maxence Lacroix played his first World Cup match. France will face a third-placed team in the round of 16 on Tuesday in New York.
