Garamendi confirms bid for third CEOE term

CEOE president Antonio Garamendi announced on Wednesday that he will seek a third term leading the employers' organization. If elected, he would remain in office until 2030.

Garamendi made the announcement during a summer course organized by the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo and the Asociación de Periodistas de Información Económica in Santander. He said he has the explicit support of organizations and companies.

The CEOE called its executive committee for July 1 to set the election date, which will be brought forward from the original November deadline. Garamendi explained that the move allows July for preparing candidacies and avoids overlap with the early November Ibero-American Summit.

The Basque leader, president since 2018, promoted a 2023 statute reform to remove the two-term limit. He invited potential rivals to present alternative projects and called for a clean campaign.
