Georgia man charged with strangling ex-girlfriend after rejection

A 20-year-old Georgia man faces aggravated assault charges after allegedly strangling his ex-girlfriend when she rejected his advances to reconcile. Jaiden Grant grabbed her by the throat and squeezed until she feared passing out, according to court documents. He has posted bond but is barred from contacting her or entering Athens-Clarke County.

Jaiden Grant, 20, of Georgia, allegedly attacked his 20-year-old ex-girlfriend in her Athens apartment after she told him she did not want to get back together and asked him to leave, court documents state. Grant briefly left the apartment before returning, grabbing the victim by the throat and squeezing to the point where she thought she would pass out, the arrest warrant details. He also slapped her and dragged her to the bedroom, where he strangled her further, according to reports from Classic City News citing police accounts. The woman fought him off, retrieved a can of pepper spray, and ordered him to leave. After Grant departed, she armed herself with a knife and called 911. Officers arrived at the apartment as Grant phoned the victim, telling her, 'You were disrespecting me to my face,' and adding, 'It all got out of hand. I'm sorry, that wasn't me, it was out of my character.' Madison County sheriff's deputies later arrested Grant and transported him to Athens, where authorities charged him with aggravated assault and battery. He has since posted bond but faces strict conditions: no direct or indirect contact with the victim and barred from Athens-Clarke County except for court appearances. No next court date is listed online yet.
