Hurkacz retires from Wimbledon match with muscle injury

Hubert Hurkacz retired from his Wimbledon fourth-round match against Jan-Lennard Struff after sustaining an apparent muscle issue. The Pole had won the first two sets before the injury forced him to withdraw in the fifth.

The match began strongly for Hurkacz, who took the first two sets. After dropping the third set, he appeared to pick up an injury at 5-5 in the fourth and left the court briefly for treatment.

Upon returning, Hurkacz lost the next two games to allow Struff to level the match at two sets each. He then requested permission to change his underwear, citing darkness, but officials denied the request.

Hurkacz retired after six games in the fifth set. Struff won 3-6, 6-7, 7-6, 7-5, 4-2.

“We’re trying to understand what it is. It’s probably a slight muscle issue,” Hurkacz said afterward. “We’re waiting for a diagnosis and then we’ll see what we do. It was impossible to continue playing.”
