Indonesia's defense minister meets Turkish military officials to discuss defense cooperation

Indonesia's Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin met with Turkish military officials in Ankara to discuss various defense cooperations. The meeting was part of an official visit to Turkey, focusing on military industry development. Indonesia views Turkey as a strategic partner to bolster national defense independence.

The meeting between Indonesia's Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Turkish military officials took place at the ASELSAN complex in Ankara on Friday local time. It formed part of Sjafrie's official visit to Turkey.

One key topic discussed was cooperation in military industry development. Sjafrie stated that Indonesia regards Turkey as a strategic partner for strengthening national defense independence. He hopes the collaboration will support a sustainable defense industry ecosystem and enhance soldier professionalism.

"As well as strengthening defense capacity in facing global strategic environment dynamics," Sjafrie said in his statement, quoted on Saturday, January 10, 2026.

Following the discussions, Sjafrie and his delegation toured the defense industry facilities at ASELSAN. The visit aimed to gain insights into Turkey's defense capabilities and technological advancements, while expanding understanding to open more concrete cooperation opportunities in the future.

Sjafrie hopes military relations between Indonesia and Turkey will continue to strengthen, leading to mutually beneficial defense industry collaborations.
