Judge keeps case open against Móstoles mayor over harassment claims

The judge investigating Móstoles mayor Manuel Bautista has rejected his request to close the sexual and workplace harassment case filed by a former councilor. Isabel Díaz Ayuso confirmed she continues to support the PP mayor.

The judge at the Móstoles court for violence against women issued a ruling on June 29 stating that the accusations are “clearly constitutive of a criminal offense”. The mayor had requested on June 23 that the complaint be archived, with his defense describing it as “personal discrepancies”.

Isabel Díaz Ayuso stated on July 1 that she will defend Bautista’s work because “no one has proven anything other than a labor dispute”. The president of the Community of Madrid added that she will not apply “author justice” to someone she considers committed to the municipality.

The former councilor’s lawyer, Antonio Suárez-Valdés, noted that the judge accepted their arguments and that the mayor’s statement as investigated is expected, along with a possible testimony from Ayuso. The complainant ratified her complaint at the court a few days ago.
