Meccha Chameleon Steam Workshop maps hit with malware

Malware has been distributed through multiple maps on the Steam Workshop for Meccha Chameleon. An independent researcher identified the issue on July 24. Developers released a patch the following day while the game's official Discord server was hacked.

An independent researcher named Feint published a report on Medium describing how the map Laser Tag Neon opened a command prompt window and downloaded a script to install malware.

The map was removed after the report but new malicious maps appeared afterward. Developers lemorion_1224 stated that version 3.1.0 of the game fixed the vulnerability.

The official Discord server was compromised on July 25. A system engineer's PC became infected during the malware investigation and a hacker bypassed two-factor authentication to alter permissions and ban staff members.

The game itself remains unaffected. Developers contacted Discord Support and said they would create a new server if the original cannot be recovered.
