A Meghalaya court on Wednesday reserved its order on the bail plea of Raj Kushwaha, key accused and alleged boyfriend of Sonam Raghuvanshi in the honeymoon murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi. This follows Sonam being granted bail on Tuesday due to arrest procedure flaws. The case involves the June 2025 killing near Wei Sawdong Falls in Sohra.
A court in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district on April 29, 2026, reserved its order on the bail plea of Raj Kushwaha, accused of conspiring with Sonam Raghuvanshi to murder her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon.
The hearing comes a day after a Shillong court granted bail to Sonam on April 28, citing violations of her constitutional rights. The court found the 'Intimation of Grounds of Arrest' defective, referencing non-existent section 403(1) BNS instead of 103(1) for murder. Similar errors appeared in the arrest memo, inspection memo, and case diary, rejecting prosecution claims of a 'clerical error.' Sonam, arrested June 9, 2025, had three prior bail rejections after over 10 months in custody.
Her bail conditions include a ₹50,000 personal bond with two sureties, not absconding, not tampering with evidence, attending hearings, and staying within jurisdiction.
Raja's body was found in a gorge near Wei Sawdong Falls in Sohra (Cherrapunji) after the couple went missing on May 23, 2025. Police allege Sonam plotted with lover Kushwaha and hired killers. A chargesheet was filed September 5, 2025.
