Mexican rescue dogs travel to Venezuela after earthquakes

Dogs Orly, Balam and Kenai, along with trainer Edgar Martínez, traveled to Venezuela to support rescue efforts after the June 24 earthquakes.

The three dogs, members of the Urban Search and Rescue group from the Red Cross in Querétaro, hold international certification to locate victims in collapsed structures.

The quakes, with the second measuring 7.5 magnitude, left at least 1,400 dead and more than 3,200 injured in Venezuela. The Mexican team will join search operations immediately.

Orly and Balam had previously taken part in similar efforts in Turkey in 2023, where they rescued four people alive. They are sons of Athos, a rescue dog poisoned in 2021.
