New footage from Netflix's Quarterback series has shed light on the communication difficulties Joe Flacco faced during his standout performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 41-year-old quarterback still managed to throw for 342 yards and three touchdowns in a 33-31 win.
Flacco joined the Cincinnati Bengals just nine days before the Week 7 game after being traded from the Cleveland Browns. He admitted struggling with formations and headset communications throughout the contest.
"What is he saying?" Flacco said on the series. "He’s saying something, and I can hear it, but I have no idea what he was saying. I’m calling formations for the first time."
A Mic’d Up moment captured him saying he had "no idea" about a formation on a drive that ended in a score. Flacco later reflected, "If I was younger, I’d feel like an idiot, but like, whatever. Who cares?"
The performance stood out against a Steelers defense expected to perform at a high level. It exceeded any single-game passing total Aaron Rodgers posted in the prior season.
