Ninjala 2 shifts focus to open-world PvE on Switch 2

GungHo unveiled details of Ninjala 2 during hands-on sessions at Anime Expo 2026. The sequel moves away from the original game's PvP emphasis toward cooperative open-world PvE gameplay. Director Motoki Kaneda discussed the changes and the series' expansion across media.

The original Ninjala launched exclusively on the Nintendo Switch in 2020 and has been downloaded more than 12 million times. It expanded into a manga and a 200-plus episode anime while receiving ongoing live-service updates.

Ninjala 2: The Uncharted Planet keeps controls similar to the first game but introduces an open-world setting where players explore the series' universe at their own pace. Kaneda cited the rich cast of characters from the anime and manga as a key reason for the shift, noting that the team wanted to let players enjoy those elements without competitive pressure.

A short demo featured a tutorial leading to a boss fight along with a photo mode that lets players pose characters. The game is positioned as a continuation of an anime story arc, though the developers remain uncertain whether it will follow those events exactly.

GungHo has no plans to release Ninjala 2 on platforms other than the Switch 2. The original game will continue to receive support, and the team may consider adding PvP elements to the sequel later based on player feedback.
