Nintendo will end sales of its original Switch consoles in Europe and other markets in February 2027 to comply with new European Union battery rules.
Nintendo will continue manufacturing the Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED Model throughout 2026. The devices should remain widely available in Europe for the full year. Sales to retailers and the Nintendo Store will stop in early 2027, shortly before the system's tenth anniversary.
The company is introducing models with user-replaceable batteries to meet the regulations. A revised Switch 2 featuring a 5172mAh battery will launch in select markets this fall. Joy-Con controllers with swappable batteries are due as early as this summer.
The policy applies to markets served by Nintendo of Europe, including Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and 28 other countries. It is not yet clear whether the changes will apply worldwide.
