Örebro demonstrated defensive strength and got an early break with a fluke goal deflected off Malmö's defenseman Martin Schreiber for 0–1.
Midway through the second period, Malmö ramped up the tempo but failed to seriously challenge Örebro's goaltender Jhonas Enroth. In the third period, Noah Steen extended the lead to 0–2 at 6:04 with a breakaway from the offensive blue line. Malmö pulled one back shortly after via defenseman Eemil Viro's slapshot from the blue line to make it 1–2, but Kalle Kossila responded with a wrist shot for 1–3. The final score was sealed 1–4 into an empty net.
The victory was hailed as a boost, especially defensively. Örebro's coach Niklas Eriksson praised assistant coach Calle Gunnarsson: 'He has come in with poise and calm, a professionalism that I like.' Noah Steen, who scored the decisive 2–0 goal, faced his best friend Petter Vesterheim on Malmö and noted the win 'tasted really good' after being treated to dinner by his friend.
From Malmö's perspective, the mood was subdued. Coach Tomas Kollar said: 'There are a lot of question marks that we need to straighten out' and 'The first period is clearly a weak effort from our side. Örebro is better than us over three periods.' Forward William von Barnekow added: 'There are no excuses. We are not at our level at all.' Despite having secured a playoff spot, Redhawks were booed by the home crowd after the sleepy performance. Örebro now wonders if this marks the start of a new trend or a return to their 'boring' style.
