Passenger stabs husband after Jeep hits pregnant woman in Oregon

A 25-year-old man faces assault charges after stabbing the husband of a pregnant Oregon woman who was struck by a Jeep while carrying her toddler in a parking lot. The incident unfolded Sunday afternoon in Rockaway Beach, escalating from a collision to violence. All victims are expected to recover.

On Sunday around 1 p.m., a pregnant woman carrying her 2-year-old son was hit by a silver Jeep Patriot in the Rockaway Beach Wayside parking lot in Tillamook County, Oregon, according to the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office. She was walking with her husband at the time of the collision. After the vehicle stopped, the husband confronted the female driver, prompting passenger Izac Rutledge, 25, to exit the Jeep and stab the man in the back with a weapon, police said. The Jeep then fled the scene with Rutledge inside, but the driver returned on foot a few blocks away and cooperated with deputies. Rutledge fled on foot, attempting to evade capture by changing his clothing, but was located and arrested a short time later without further incident. The pregnant woman and her child suffered injuries but are expected to recover, the sheriff's office reported. The stabbed husband was taken to a local hospital and is also anticipated to make a full recovery. Tillamook County Sheriff Josh Brown described the event in a press release: 'This incident escalated quickly.' He added that it 'had the potential to result in far more serious injuries' and praised deputies for their swift response, thanking citizens who provided information. Rutledge faces charges of first-degree assault, menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, and disorderly conduct. He is scheduled for arraignment on April 3.
