The Pittsburgh Pirates completed a trade with the Chicago White Sox on Friday evening. They received infielder Jacob Gonzalez and reliever Brandon Eisert in exchange for the 34th overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft and minor league pitcher Jaden Woods.
The deal gives the Pirates a shortstop option while Konnor Griffin recovers from a thumb injury. Gonzalez, a 24-year-old former top-15 pick, is expected to start at shortstop immediately.
Eisert, 28, brings left-handed relief depth after posting an ERA+ of 88 over parts of three MLB seasons. Woods, also 24, had reached triple-A this year with a 4.61 ERA in the minors.
The White Sox gain the No. 34 pick and its bonus pool space, joining their Nos. 1 and 41 selections for Saturday's draft. MLB allows trading of competitive balance picks.
