President Prabowo Subianto witnessed a major shrimp harvest at the Budi Daya Udang Berbasis Kawasan project in Kebumen, Central Java, on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The project, inaugurated in March 2023 on 100 hectares in Desa Tegalretno, uses modern technology to boost productivity. Sixty-five hectares are equipped with advanced water management including one seawater intake unit and 17 wastewater treatment plants.
The eighth harvest cycle reached 40 tons per hectare from 139 ponds, yielding a total of 1.15 kilotons of vannamei shrimp. The project contributed Rp83.34 billion to PNBP and employs 145 permanent workers plus 500 daily laborers from local residents.
During the event, Prabowo stated that Indonesia has achieved self-sufficiency in rice and corn. He targets self-sufficiency in animal protein within the next four to five years. The president stressed the need to manage national resources independently in line with the 1945 Constitution.
