President Prabowo Subianto arrived at Tokyo's Haneda Airport on Sunday local time for his first official visit as president. He was welcomed by Japanese officials and is scheduled to meet Emperor Naruhito and Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. The trip aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
President Prabowo Subianto departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta on Sunday (March 29, 2026) around 10:35 WIB. His send-off included Deputy Speaker of DPR Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, TNI Commander Agus Subiyanto, and National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
The president and his entourage arrived at Haneda Airport at 19:10 Tokyo time. At the foot of the aircraft stairs, he was welcomed by Japan's State Minister for Foreign Affairs Iwao Horii, Head of State Protocol Tadayuki Miyashita, Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir, and Defense Attaché Lt. Col. Hidayaturrahman. From the airport, they proceeded directly to their accommodation.
The visit's agenda includes a state call on Emperor Naruhito and a meeting with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at Akasaka Palace. Discussions will cover trade, technology, education, forestry, environment, investment, energy, maritime affairs, and digital sectors. State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said, "These meetings are certainly to strengthen the friendly cooperation between the two countries, and specifically, the President will discuss strategic matters that have been the strength of our cooperation with the Japanese government."
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya noted the trip as part of Indonesia's active diplomacy in East Asia. After Japan, the president is scheduled to proceed to South Korea. Indonesia and Japan have maintained comprehensive ties for 68 years in economic, political, and socio-cultural fields.
