Revenue Service seizes wood shipment possibly loaded with cocaine at border

Brazil's Federal Revenue launched Operation Timber Shield on Sunday (21) and seized eight trucks carrying 260 tons of wood that may contain cocaine.

The operation took place in the cities of Corumbá (MS) and Cáceres (MT), on the border with Bolivia. Agents detected the cargo on Friday (19) and the action involved cooperation from the United States and Bolivia's National Customs.

Preliminary examination indicated the presence of the drug. It is estimated that 10% to 20% of the wood weight corresponds to cocaine, which could amount to 20 to 50 tons of the substance. The Federal Police is conducting the final analysis.

Finance Minister Dario Durigan stated that the seizure could become the largest in Brazil's history. He highlighted the exchange of intelligence information between Brazil and the US.
