Scary Movie reboot and Masters of the Universe target $35M+ June openings

Paramount and Miramax are positioning a Scary Movie revival for a strong early-June debut that will go head-to-head with Masters of the Universe, with both films now expected to open at or above $35 million.

The sixth Scary Movie installment, a spiritual sequel to the first two entries, is now slated for June 5. Directed by Michael Tiddes, the film brings back Anna Faris and Regina Hall and carries a current domestic opening forecast of $35–40 million. Tickets go on sale Monday. The date puts it in direct competition with Masters of the Universe, which is also aiming for a $35 million-plus launch the same weekend. The matchup marks a rare event-film clash for the early summer corridor.
