The Seoul Central District Court is scheduled to hand down its verdict at 2 p.m. Monday in former President Yoon Suk Yeol's election law violation case.
The verdict could force the main opposition People Power Party to return 39.7 billion won in reimbursed election expenses if Yoon receives a final sentence of more than 1 million won in fines or imprisonment.
Special counsel Min Joong-ki has requested a two-year prison term. Yoon is accused of making false statements in a December 2021 press event and a January 2022 interview about introducing a lawyer and meeting a shaman.
Yoon faces this ruling while already sentenced to life imprisonment in February for leading an insurrection through his failed December 2024 martial law attempt.
