At least seven people were injured when part of the ceiling at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 collapsed on Thursday. The Department of Transportation ordered New NAIA Infra Corporation and Manila International Airport Authority to investigate the incident.
The incident occurred around 10:43 a.m. at the arrival extension of NAIA Terminal 1, according to New NAIA Infra Corporation, the private operator of the country's main gateway. The Philippine National Police’s Aviation Security Group responded immediately, and the area was cordoned off.
The injured received medical assistance. NNIC’s engineering team inspected the affected area and confirmed it was safe for operations to continue.
The Department of Transportation said it is closely monitoring the situation. “The DOTr is closely monitoring the situation and expects a thorough assessment of the incident, including the implementation of necessary measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future,” the department stated.
