South Korea to send special envoy to Angola for 50th independence anniversary

South Korea is sending a special envoy to Angola this week to attend celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the country's independence from Portugal. The foreign ministry announced on November 10 that it is sending special envoy Kim Dong-chan, a retired diplomat and former ambassador to Angola, to the country this week. Kim will participate in the commemorative event on Tuesday local time. During the visit, he will deliver a personal letter from Foreign Minister Cho Hyun to Angolan President Joao Lourenco.

Angola gained independence from Portugal in 1975. As Africa's second-largest oil producer, the country has strengthened economic ties with South Korea in recent years, with Korean companies securing multiple oil tanker orders.
