Teenager sentenced for murder of Murad in Alby

An 18-year-old man was sentenced on Friday for shooting dead 20-year-old Murad outside his home in Alby, Botkyrka, on February 24. The shooter used ChatGPT to plan the crime and evade police, according to the investigation. The family emphasizes that Murad had no ties to criminal activity.

On February 24 this year, shortly after 10:30 p.m., an 18-year-old man opened fire on Murad outside his apartment door in Alby, south of Stockholm. Murad, who had just turned 20, was hit by six shots and died at the scene. The shooter continued firing even after Murad had fallen to the ground.

Two 17-year-olds were charged with aiding the crime by booking a taxi to pick up the weapon and carry out the shooting. A 16-year-old was charged with serious weapons offenses. All were previously unconvicted, except one of the 17-year-olds who had been sentenced for minor drug possession.

Murad's family, via their lawyer Simon Kjellstrand, described him as a wonderful son and person with no criminal connections. Police and prosecutors confirm that nothing indicates Murad was involved in crime or was the intended target.

The investigation revealed that the shooter consulted ChatGPT about his murder plans. He asked, among other things: "If I kill someone, how do I avoid getting caught by the police?" and about penalties for murder. One specific question matched his later explanation to friends and police.

Shortly before the crime, he messaged a friend about earning 100,000 kronor for the assignment from "Generalen" and "Agent 47." Afterward, the client complained about a "shit job" due to the mistaken shooting. The shooter went to buy food at McDonald's, but a taxi driver alerted the police. He was arrested hours later while washing his muddy clothes.

On Friday, the verdict was delivered in Södertörns District Court. The prosecutor sought life imprisonment for the 18-year-old and closed youth care for the 17-year-olds.
