Texas man charged over secret administration of abortion drug

A Texas man is accused of secretly giving his pregnant girlfriend an abortion-inducing medication without her knowledge, resulting in the death of the unborn child. Authorities in Montgomery County announced the charges during a press conference this week.

John Ruben Demeter, 25, faces one count each of illegal performance of an abortion and injury to a child. Montgomery County Sheriff Wesley Doolittle said Demeter obtained the medication online, crushed it, and mixed it into a water bottle containing a liquid I.V. packet that he gave to the woman. The pregnancy was believed to be about 14 weeks along at the time of the incident in February.
