Unions call for strike on December 2 against 2026 budget

Called by the CGT, FSU, and Solidaires, a national strike day is set for Tuesday, December 2, to challenge the 2026 budget draft, deemed unfair by unions. Disruptions will affect transport, education, and public administrations. Users should expect slowdowns in key sectors.

The December 2 mobilization targets the 2026 finance bill, described as «socially unjust» by unions. They demand an end to the public sector salary freeze, general pay raises, a halt to job cuts, and the abandonment of doubled medical deductibles. Discussions on this budget will continue until mid-December.

Transport services will see reductions. At RATP, a strike notice covers from December 1 at 6 p.m. to December 3 at 7 a.m., with metro, bus, and tram lines operating in limited mode. At SNCF, CGT Cheminots anticipates delays and train cancellations; official forecasts will be released Monday afternoon. In aviation, minority pilots' unions at Air France plan actions on December 2 and 3 against job reductions.

The national education system will face teacher absences in primary and secondary schools. Some schools will provide minimum service, while others may close based on local decisions. School cafeterias, morning and evening care, and extracurricular activities could be disrupted. Municipal nurseries may operate reduced hours or partially close.

State and local administrations will experience slowdowns: temporary counter closures, postponed appointments for ID documents or social services. In health facilities, a minimum service will be ensured with limited presence of non-striking staff.

Demonstrations are scheduled in cities including Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Châteaubriant, Lens, Douai, Dijon, Le Havre, and Rouen. Details for Paris are pending, but marches could lead to road diversions and city-center traffic slowdowns.
