Uppsala municipality inaugurates first trygghetspunkt in Björklinge

On 18 May Björklingebiblioteket was inaugurated as Uppsala municipality’s first trygghetspunkt. The site will provide support during crises such as extreme weather or power outages.

Kommunstyrelsens ordförande Erik Pelling (S) cut the ribbon at the inauguration. He stressed that the trygghetspunkt forms an important part of the municipality’s crisis preparedness and that the Frivilliga Resursgruppen (FRG) will staff it.

Mohammed Mekrami, head of libraries, explained that the trygghetspunkt builds on the library’s role as an open meeting place. Ulrika Kumlien, head of crisis preparedness, said the municipality is starting in rural areas and plans more sites in other libraries.

At the opening the municipality demonstrated equipment from FRG and Uppsala Vatten. Visitors can access water, lighting, charging and information during a societal disturbance.
