Minister inaugurates renovated bunker in Eslöv

Carl-Oskar Bohlin, minister for civil defense, inaugurated a 50-year-old bunker in Eslöv on Wednesday that Staffanstorp municipality has bought and renovated. The facility will serve as a command center during crises.

The bunker is located in Gullarp outside Eslöv and was built between 1974 and 1976 to lead civil defense in central Skåne. Staffanstorp paid 11.5 million kronor for it in 2024 and has since modernized the ventilation and communication systems.

Carl-Oskar Bohlin emphasized that it is an example of how municipalities can manage resources efficiently. He noted that the facility risked ending up with a private owner but is now reused for its original purpose.

Municipal board chairman Christian Sonesson said the bunker solves space shortages for civil preparedness. It can be used for long-term food storage, training and as a communications and command center during a crisis.

The bunker has room for 75 people, its own well and a diesel generator that allows isolation for up to three months.
