Yonhap News Agency hosted its annual Korean Peninsula Symposium in Seoul on Friday to discuss security policy amid weakening alliances and economic security challenges such as supply chain disruptions.
The annual Korean Peninsula Symposium took place at Lotte Hotel Seoul, co-hosted by the Ministry of Unification and the Institute for National Security Strategy. This year's theme was "Global complex crises and the Korean Peninsula."
Unification Minister Chung Dong-young called for a practical approach to the North Korean nuclear issue, advocating a phased process of halting the program before full denuclearization. President Lee Jae Myung reaffirmed pragmatic diplomacy in a message read by Seong Ghi-hong.
U.S. House Reps. Young Kim and Ami Bera participated virtually, stressing the South Korea-U.S. alliance. Yonhap News Agency President and CEO Hwang Dae-il said the forum would offer insights into the changing international order. Yonhap has hosted the event annually since 2015.
