Yuki Tsunoda to drive Red Bull car in San Francisco demo

Red Bull test and reserve driver Yuki Tsunoda will return to an F1 car for a demonstration event in San Francisco on February 21. The showrun, backed by Ford, features the Japanese racer piloting the iconic RB7 on Marina Boulevard. Tsunoda joins other motorsport stars for displays aimed at thrilling local audiences.

Yuki Tsunoda, the 25-year-old Japanese driver who lost his full-time Formula 1 seat at the end of last season, is set to participate in a Red Bull-organized showrun in San Francisco. The event, presented by Ford Racing, takes place on February 21 from 12 to 4 p.m. along Marina Boulevard, where shoreline will transform into a racing line for the day.

Tsunoda, now serving as test and reserve driver for both Red Bull and Racing Bulls, will drive the RB7, Red Bull's double title-winning car from 2011. He began his F1 career with AlphaTauri—now known as Racing Bulls—in 2021, spending over four seasons there before a promotion to Red Bull. However, like previous drivers, he struggled to match Max Verstappen's performance and was dropped from the team's 2026 lineup. Tsunoda remains on standby for potential substitute roles during the season and provides off-track support.

Joining Tsunoda are former F1 driver Scott Speed, who will pilot a Visa Cash App Racing Bulls F1 car; Ford off-road specialist Mitch Guthrie in the Dakar Rally-winning Ford Raptor T1+; and freestyle motocross rider Aaron Colton, performing aerial displays. Spectators can also view vehicles like the Mustang GT3 endurance racer and F-150 Lightning Supertruck.

“I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel of an F1 car, and to do that in the RB7 in San Francisco will be amazing,” Tsunoda said. “I’m really looking forward to getting out there, doing some donuts and making some real F1 noise in front of the crowds.”

Red Bull aims to bring Formula 1 excitement to new global audiences through such events, allowing fans to experience the sport up close.
