Google rolls out AI Mode updates in Chrome for US users

Building on January's Gemini AI tools like the multitasking sidebar, Google has begun rolling out enhancements to AI Mode in Chrome, adding side-by-side browsing and tab integration to streamline research. Now available to US desktop and mobile users with global expansion planned, these features reduce tab switching during AI-assisted tasks.
Google will stream a pre-recorded presentation called The Android Show on May 12 at 1PM ET. The event will highlight updates to the Android ecosystem before the main I/O 2026 conference starts on May 19. Viewers can watch the full show live on YouTube.

Don Ho, creator of the Windows-exclusive text editor Notepad++, has publicly rejected an unofficial macOS version called 'Notepad++ for Mac' developed by Andrey Letov. Ho cited unauthorized use of the Notepad++ trademark and logo as misleading to users. Letov is rebranding the app as NextPad++ amid the dispute.
Anthropic has released a beta add-on bringing its Claude AI assistant to Microsoft Word, available now to customers on Team and Enterprise plans. The integration allows users to generate new content, edit documents, and handle comments within the app. It offers an alternative to Microsoft's Copilot.

Researchers analyzing 10 million web pages have identified 1,748 active API credentials from 14 major providers exposed across nearly 10,000 websites, including those run by banks and healthcare providers. These leaks could enable attackers to access sensitive data or gain control over digital infrastructure. Nurullah Demir of Stanford University described the issue as very significant, affecting even major companies.
