Addis Ababa City Cabinet approves 502.27 billion birr budget proposal

The Addis Ababa City Administration cabinet has approved a draft budget of 502.27 billion birr for the 2026/27 fiscal year and sent it to the City Council. The proposal marks a 43.45 percent increase from the previous year's 350.13 billion birr budget.

The cabinet held its 5th year 12th regular meeting and approved the draft budget of 502.27 billion birr for the 2026/27 fiscal year before forwarding it to the City Council.

Of the total allocation, 71 percent goes to poverty reduction and sustainable development goals while 29 percent covers administrative expenses. Special focus is placed on infrastructure projects such as roads, water, housing and transport as well as social services including education, health and subsidies for low-income residents.

The cabinet also decided on a revenue generation study, regulations for a civil servants training institute, municipal holding service fees and land allocation for nationally significant projects.
