Administrative workers at Volkswagen México seek to unionize for first time in nearly 60 years

Administrative workers at Volkswagen de México began a process to obtain a collective contract with the company. The effort aims to improve labor conditions and provide legal certainty. Representatives from the Unión General de México are leading the signature collection.

Employees affiliated with the Unión General de México, led by Hiram Sánchez Pavón, announced at a press conference that they started collecting signatures to formally request the collective contract.

Spokesperson Diana Moctezuma, with 12 years of seniority, and delegate Roberto Castañeda, with 25 years at the company, explained that the goal is to establish clear rules on pay, stability and benefits.

The workers notified the federal labor authority and noted that the initiative is based on the 2019 labor reform, which allows free association through personal, free, direct and secret voting.

Volkswagen de México operates a plant in Puebla since 1967, where it produces Jetta, Tiguan and Taos models, plus a facility in Silao for engines.
