A 24-year-old woman in Alabama has received a life sentence without parole for fatally shooting a pregnant woman in 2023. Prosecutors had sought the death penalty in the case.

Aaniyah Nowden was sentenced on Friday after a jury found her guilty of capital murder in the death of 36-year-old Justina Wallace. The Birmingham Police Department had charged Nowden with the crime in the summer of 2023 following the July 7 shooting at a home on the 3200 block of 17th Avenue North.
