Alexandra Eala addresses serve criticism after Wimbledon run

Alexandra Eala defended her serve and mentality after reaching the Wimbledon round of 16. The Filipina spoke at a Nike fan event in Bonifacio Global City on July 15.

Eala, the first Filipino player to reach that stage at the tournament, lost to Jasmine Paolini in the round of 16 after defeating defending champion Iga Swiatek in the third round.

She addressed questions about her serve, which averages between 86 and 98 mph on the first delivery. “I know that I put so much work into my serve,” Eala said. “When I have a bad serve day, it’s okay, because I know I did my best.”

Eala also highlighted the role of her support team in handling outside opinions. Swiatek had noted after their match that the slower pace made returns difficult, a comment Eala greeted with a smile.

Eala will next compete on the hard-court swing ahead of the US Open.
