Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez argued that individuals cannot legitimately earn a billion dollars through their own efforts. She made the comments during a podcast interview and followed up with a post on X.
During an episode of the “It’s Open” podcast with comedian Ilana Glazer, Ocasio-Cortez stated that billionaires accumulate wealth by gaining market power, breaking rules, abusing labor laws, and paying workers less than they are worth. She added that such individuals must create a myth around their earnings because the money was not truly earned.
