Anthropic raises $65 billion, surpassing OpenAI valuation

Anthropic raised $65 billion in a new funding round and reached a $900 billion valuation, surpassing OpenAI.

The artificial intelligence startup behind the Claude chatbot completed the funding round led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital. The $900 billion valuation exceeds OpenAI's $852 billion.

The company reported annualized revenue above $47 billion this month, more than five times the figure at the start of the year. Three months earlier, it had raised $30 billion at a $350 billion valuation.

New investors include Micron, Samsung and SK Hynix. Anthropic also signed deals with SpaceX, Google, Broadcom and Amazon.

The firm launched Claude Opus 4.8 today, described as more honest. CEO Dario Amodei leads the company, which plans to use the capital to expand computing capacity.
