APC threatens fresh graft allegations against Oyo government

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has threatened to release new allegations of mismanagement against the state government led by Governor Seyi Makinde. This follows revelations about a N50 billion federal relief fund for the Ibadan explosion. The APC accuses the administration of corruption and ingratitude toward the federal government.

On January 5, 2026, the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) issued a strong statement threatening to unveil fresh allegations of graft against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government under Governor Seyi Makinde. The move comes in the wake of comments by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, who disclosed that the federal government released N50 billion to assist victims of the Ibadan explosion. The state government responded with official statements and media appearances to defend its position, though political analysts have faulted Makinde for the delayed disclosure of these funds.

In the statement from Ibadan, APC Publicity Secretary Olawale Sadare criticized the governor sharply. He said, “Governor Makinde lives in a glass house from where he throws stones at the neighbourhood while he constantly seeks to demonise the government at the centre as a result of his penchant for self-aggrandisement and dirty politicking.” Sadare described the handling of the N50 billion Ibadan Explosion Relief Fund as a clear case of mismanagement and insensitivity toward explosion victims and their communities. He argued that the saga exposes the PDP administration as a “cesspool of corruption” reliant on false narratives.

The APC further highlighted what it sees as Makinde's pattern of criticizing federal efforts. It recalled how the governor accused the administration of late President Muhammadu Buhari of providing contaminated rice palliatives during the 2020 COVID-19 crisis. Despite increased monthly allocations to Oyo State and its 33 local governments, donations of compressed natural gas buses, vehicles, and tricycles, and other federal aids, Makinde has not acknowledged these, according to the party. Instead, he has condemned the removal of fuel subsidies and opposed the Supreme Court ruling granting financial autonomy to local councils.

The APC portrayed Makinde's actions as an attempt to undermine President Bola Tinubu's administration rather than express gratitude for the emergency relief.
