Casa Batlló opens third floor for hourly rentals after renovation

The third floor of Barcelona's Casa Batlló has been renovated and opens to the public this Monday for hourly rentals. The current owners, the Bernat family, aim to make the building more than just a visit site.

After a comprehensive renovation that cost four million euros, the ten rooms on the third floor recover the original modernist style designed by Antoni Gaudí between 1904 and 1906. The spaces include salons, dining rooms, a library and a kitchen, with capacity for two to 20 people starting at 200 euros per hour.

The apartment was inhabited until 2019 by Mercedes Arbiol Muntané, the last descendant of the Batlló family. Architect Xavier Villanueva led the archaeological work to restore original carpentry, stuccos and pavements, revealing floral decorations hidden for a century.

Designer Paola Navone contributed contemporary furniture that engages with Gaudí's iconic pieces. Director Gary Gautier explained that the Bernat family wants Casa Batlló “not to be just a place to visit, but also to live it”.

Collaborating with architect Danielle Siggerud, Calderone transformed the property previously owned by French architect Thierry Despont into a sophisticated home.
