Mohamed El-Shimy, Minister of Public Enterprises Sector, convened a meeting with the newly formed board of directors of Misr Travel, a subsidiary of the Holding Company for Tourism and Hotels (HOTAC), to assess the company's future vision and development initiatives. The session, chaired by non-executive chairperson Mohamed Saeed Mahrous, included attendance from Amr Attia, managing director of HOTAC, and Ahmed Askalani, managing director of Misr Travel.
The board outlined a fresh business strategy designed to reclaim Misr Travel's status as a premier Egyptian tourism brand, established in 1934, amid evolving global industry trends. El-Shimy described Misr Travel as a vital national player in Egypt's tourism landscape, with an ongoing comprehensive development plan aimed at elevating the quality and standards of its tourism products and services to heighten local and international competitiveness.
The minister urged swift digital transformation, including broader electronic booking systems and updated tourism programs. He also called for modernizing the tourist transport fleet and limousine services, prioritizing locally made products such as vehicles from El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company to bolster national industry and inter-company integration within the public sector.
Further, El-Shimy stressed creating premium tourism offerings and aligning customer service with top international standards. Discussions covered hotel development plans, notably the redevelopment of the Romance Hotel in Alexandria to expand capacity and improve services, alongside upgrades to the Nile Crystal floating restaurants.
The meeting addressed optimizing Misr Travel's assets and branches across Egypt, including repurposing the Misr Travel Tower in Abbassia for multifaceted uses yielding maximum economic returns. El-Shimy highlighted expanding events and conference tourism, leveraging modern digital marketing, and boosting participation in domestic and international exhibitions to amplify brand visibility.
This effort forms a core element of the ministry's wider strategy to optimize asset returns and enhance the economic contributions of its affiliated companies.
