Continental launches TKC80² dual-purpose tire

Continental has released the TKC80², an updated version of its 40-year-old TKC80 adventure tire, at the BMW Performance Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The new tire aims to improve off-road grip, wet handling, stability, and even wear while maintaining a familiar look. Engineers described the design challenge as a 'target conflict' for balancing road and off-road performance.

Continental engineers presented the TKC80² as a successor designed to address the compromises inherent in dual-purpose tires. The tire retains bias construction after radial prototypes produced excessive resonance. According to Continental, the 40-year-old TKC80's iconic appearance necessitated a similar aesthetic for the new model, hence the TKC80² name rather than a completely new designation. One engineer humorously called it a '60 percent road and 60 percent off-road tire.'
