Coviandina warns of water management irregularities on Bogotá-Villavicencio road

Concessionaire Coviandina identified irregular interventions in Quebrada Munar, at kilometer 15+940 on the Bogotá-Villavicencio road, during a technical visit on January 29. These actions include stream bed diversions and illegal water intakes that endanger road safety and nearby communities. The entity urges environmental authorities to act urgently to prevent major damage.

During a technical visit on January 29, concessionaire Coviandina detected several irregularities in water resource management in Quebrada Munar, located at kilometer 15+940 on the Bogotá-Villavicencio road. Observations include stream bed diversions using artisanal channels, illegal water intakes, installation of hoses and pipes, possible discharges, and accumulation of particulate material. These interventions, attributed to individuals or nearby residents, disrupt the natural water flow and pose significant risks.

Coviandina gathered evidence of these unauthorized anthropogenic modifications, which could lead to sudden water level rises, overflows, accelerated erosion, slope instability, and material drag. Such effects threaten road safety, infrastructure integrity, and the well-being of adjacent communities. The entity noted similarities to previous incidents at kilometers 58+000 and 18+000.

"As the concessionaire of the Bogotá-Villavicencio road, Coviandina informs the authorities of these situations due to their potential environmental infractions and imminent risk to the corridor's stability," the concessionaire stated in its release. In response, they emphasized the need for coordinated and urgent action by environmental and territorial entities, applying prevention and precaution principles to halt these practices and avert larger-scale events with irreparable damage.
