LFI MP Marie Mesmeur denounced graffiti threatening the lives of her party's militants found at Rennes 2 University, amid extreme tensions following the death of nationalist militant Quentin Deranque in Lyon. These inscriptions, including a swastika and a call for 'justice for Quentin', target her deputy and a municipal election candidate. Mesmeur reported the incidents to the prosecutor and urged complaints.
On February 18, 2026, Ille-et-Vilaine MP and LFI mayoral candidate for Rennes, Marie Mesmeur, raised the alarm over graffiti threatening the lives of La France Insoumise (LFI) militants spotted on the Rennes 2 University campus. According to her statement, these writings explicitly target her deputy and a candidate on her municipal list. Another inscription, 'justice for Quentin', refers to the recent death of nationalist militant Quentin Deranque, 23, accompanied by a swastika, as shown in attached photos.
'These facts constitute explicit death threats and must be taken very seriously given the current political climate,' Mesmeur stated, reporting the matter to the Rennes prosecutor under Article 40 of the code of criminal procedure. To AFP, she added: 'I asked my deputy and the candidate on my municipal list whom I refer to (…) to file a complaint. The current climate is very serious.'
This incident follows the death of Quentin Deranque, which occurred the previous week after an assault by several hooded individuals on the sidelines of a conference by LFI MEP Rima Hassan at Sciences Po Lyon. Deranque was providing security for Nemesis identity collective militants during a 'ranked battle' between far-left and far-right groups, according to a source close to the case. Eleven people have been arrested, including three close to LFI MP Raphaël Arnault, founder of the Jeune Garde.
Meanwhile, LFI's national headquarters in Paris was evacuated Wednesday due to a bomb threat. In Rennes, a gathering in homage to Deranque is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. Mesmeur emphasizes the severity of the context, with no direct link established to the Lyon investigation, but amid heightened polarization.
